Tendonitis Frustrations

The tendonitis has been a deterrent to my writing. I have thoughts, ideas, even whole scenes coming to me (with dialogue!) that I can barely scratch out on a pad of paper. I've made cryptic notes in my manuscript file on the computer. Typing left-handed only? Well, that had to stop. My south paw is too slow and I end up getting frustrated and typing with both hands, hence, the continuation of the tendonitis.

Preparing for home renovations hasn't helped much, either.

Tendonitis aside, the story must go on or I'll go crazy. I love my family - my husband and children come first in my life - but even they are aware (perhaps the most aware?) that I must write or lose my sanity. So I have tried everything: writing left-handed (like deciphering a physician's scrawl), left-handed typing (argh!), and even a typing schedule of 15 minutes on/15 minutes off (apparently, 15 minutes rest isn't enough). And slowly, s-l-o-w-l-y, despite the tendonitis, I am making progress on my novel.

But I'm excited about the story and I want to be able to get it all down! This is very frustrating.

Wow. I feel your pain. I'd go around the bend if I couldn't write.

Have you tried a tape recorder as a stop-gap?

I used to have one but I can't find it. We've gone through just about every room in the house AND the garage in preparation for our remodel and still no luck! It was at least twenty years old anyway, so I have it on my needs list, along with a headset for my cell phone.

Ouch. Do you have one of those wrist braces with the hard pieces that keep your wrist from moving? Mine helps a lot, especially if I sleep in it.

Have you seen those ergonomic mice? I've seen several types, but I've never used one. I've thought about it though... one day I'll have to try them. My left wrist is fine now, but my right wrist keeps getting worse.

Wal-Mart carries digital recorders for about $35 - can hold up to 6 hours of recorded info in different folders and subfolders if needed - and I wouldn't mind transcribing for you if need be but dictating your story isn't the same as tying itup and it being your writing stuff - lol - I think it's time to see your doctor again and have him give you an injection or something to help speed the healing process - because you need your hand - for way too many things beside just writing - lol -

I'm glad you are taking it slow and still getting something on your writing done - hopefully it will all get fixed soon and you will be back in the game - E :)

Yes, I have the brace. I can't type with it on, which is probably what they intended when they designed the brace ;) I find that my wrist gets better after a few days of rest but as soon as I start using it again the tendonitis flares up again.

Maybe it's time I requested a brace in every color so I can coordinate with my outfits.

Thanks, E, for the Wal-Mart tip. I'll put that on my list of errands today! I fear if I go back to the doctor he'll ask, "Have you been using your wrist?" and I'll say, "Yes," and he'll say, "Don't," and that will be the end of the appointment and I'll have spent another $89 on an office visit just to get my wrist-slapped, metaphorically speaking.

you need a doctor who is going to do something for you and not just tell you not to use your wrist - sorry there are other things that can be done without them being snippy little jerkwads - Doesn't sound like you have good doctors over that way - you need to move - find you someone who is devoted to health care and all - but there has to be something that can be done that allows you to keep using your wrist and not keep aggravating it

hum maybe a gold shot, a corticosteroid (not with your adrenal problem, I'm sure), something has to be there to help you - tell the doctor you aren't leaving until he does something for you - regardless of him saying or you not to use your hand - - it's your perogative to make sure you get the treatment you deserve and for that kind of money - at $89 a pop, you shouldn't walk out of the office until you have been treated to your satifaction - not the doctors - if you are paying that then they better well give you the full hour that you deserve - sorry - I'm so hateful about the way doctors treat patients and how much they charge for an office visit when they only want to spend 5 minutes with you and yet they book 10 other people in the same time slot - it's no wonder the insurance companies won't pay anything - the doctors don't meet their end of the bargain.

Anyway - hope you get it taken care of soon because you can't continue with it like it is - E :)
